{"id":1311,"date":"2014-08-01T09:31:57","date_gmt":"2014-08-01T17:31:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/?p=1311"},"modified":"2014-08-01T09:31:57","modified_gmt":"2014-08-01T17:31:57","slug":"music-friday-new-wave-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/music-friday-new-wave-edition\/","title":{"rendered":"Music Friday &#8211; New Wave Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"TweetButton_button\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 10px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/share\" class=\"twitter-share-button\"  data-url=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/music-friday-new-wave-edition\/\" data-text=\"Music Friday &#038;%238211; New Wave Edition\" data-lang=\"en\">Tweet<\/a><br \/>\n<script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,\"script\",\"twitter-wjs\");<\/script><\/div>\n<p>Welcome to another edition of Music Friday. \u00a0I&#8217;m your host, Kasey Kasem. \u00a0Jumping of on a tangent from last Music Friday, today we will foray into the New Wave Movement of \u00a0the late 1970s and early 1980s. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_wave_music\" target=\"_blank\">New Wave Music <\/a>was an evolution of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1970s_punk_rock#Early_history\" target=\"_blank\">Punk Rock,<\/a> tweaked ever so slightly to give it some mainstream appeal and therefore chance of commercial viability. \u00a0If you are about my age and have ever listened to a radio, you have probably heard these songs, which I chose to highlight the fact that New Wave did what it set out to do, which was reach an audience.<\/p>\n<p>First up, English group <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Fixx\" target=\"_blank\">The Fixx<\/a>. \u00a0This song, &#8220;One Thing Leads To Another&#8221;, is their most successful recording, having reached #4 on the US Billboard Top 100 in 1983:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pIe-Cj071l0\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Loved<\/em> it. \u00a0OK, next here is a band from Scotland called<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Big_Country\" target=\"_blank\"> Big Country.<\/a>\u00a0 This song, &#8220;In a Big Country&#8221; was popular at the same time as the previous song, as it reached #17 on the US Billboard Top 100 the same year.
