{"id":1450,"date":"2014-08-18T13:21:36","date_gmt":"2014-08-18T21:21:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/?p=1450"},"modified":"2014-08-18T13:21:58","modified_gmt":"2014-08-18T21:21:58","slug":"regard-robin-williams-people-just-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/regard-robin-williams-people-just-people\/","title":{"rendered":"In regard to Robin Williams &#8211; People are just People"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"TweetButton_button\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 10px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/share\" class=\"twitter-share-button\"  data-url=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/regard-robin-williams-people-just-people\/\" data-text=\"In regard to Robin Williams &#038;%238211; People are just People\" data-lang=\"en\">Tweet<\/a><br \/>\n<script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,\"script\",\"twitter-wjs\");<\/script><\/div>\n<p>Inside we are all the same. \u00a0It&#8217;s the circumstances around us that make us &#8220;different&#8221; from one another.<\/p>\n<p>Here in The New Yorker is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2014\/08\/25\/old-gang\" target=\"_blank\">an interview with Penny Marshall<\/a> in rememberance of Robin Williams. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Penny_Marshall\" target=\"_blank\">Penny Marshall<\/a>, who is Hollywood royalty in her own right shares anecdotes about her and other big name showbiz type&#8217;s interactions with Robin Williams. \u00a0They are referred to as &#8220;The Old Gang&#8221;. \u00a0It interested me because they all sound like regular people, like the old gang you were part of in high school or college or wherever. \u00a0And I think that is because somewhere inside they are all just regular people. \u00a0Certainly people with their own problems &#8211; that&#8217;s what make them regular. \u00a0They \u00a0just can&#8217;t hang out in public like Regular Joes because regular joes like us would fall all over them. \u00a0So I can see how their fame could be more of a curse than a blessing.<\/p>\n<p>Robin Williams was arguably one of the best known and universally loved personalities in the world. \u00a0By all accounts he seemed a devoted family man who loved his kids. \u00a0Yet like any regular joe, he sometimes had to take on jobs he didn&#8217;t like just for the paycheck. \u00a0Like many regular joes he found happiness to be fleeting and elusive. \u00a0And ultimately like too many regular joes his problems became too much for him to face. \u00a0It wasn&#8217;t his fault that no matter how much money you make, you can still have money problems. \u00a0It wasn&#8217;t his fault that no matter how many people love you, you can still feel alone. \u00a0When millions love you and want you to love them back, you&#8217;re saddled with an obligation that is impossible to fulfill &#8211; it must be an enormous drain. \u00a0Perhaps we loved him to death?<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t like to think that he solved his problems with suicide. \u00a0Life&#8217;s messy, so we clean it up by&#8230;ending it? \u00a0No. \u00a0I think he made a mistake. \u00a0But that&#8217;s one man&#8217;s meaningless opinion. \u00a0I just pray for his family to find some peace.<\/p>\n<p>Hat Tip: \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/althouse.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Althouse<\/a><\/p>\n<p>PS &#8211; Penny Marshall anecdote: \u00a0In the summer of 2001 I was in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel restaurant in Port Charlotte, Florida on my cell phone while my party had gone inside to be seated. \u00a0A big black limousine pulled into the parking lot. \u00a0A chauffeur got out, opened the door and a well dressed woman exited. \u00a0The woman and the driver walked into the restaurant and I recognized the woman as Penny Marshall. \u00a0When I finished my call and went inside, I looked around but didn&#8217;t see the woman or her driver anywhere. \u00a0I asked my party if they saw Penny Marshall come in, but no one had. \u00a0So I can only assume that all Cracker Barrel restaurants have secret VIP backrooms. \u00a0Ms. Marshall, can you confirm? \u00a0Though I am often suspected of being hallucinatory, so there is that possibility.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tweet Inside we are all the same. \u00a0It&#8217;s the circumstances around us that make us &#8220;different&#8221; from one another.
