{"id":1633,"date":"2014-09-29T13:08:51","date_gmt":"2014-09-29T21:08:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/?p=1633"},"modified":"2014-09-29T13:08:51","modified_gmt":"2014-09-29T21:08:51","slug":"technology-reveals-much-stonehenge-meets-eye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/technology-reveals-much-stonehenge-meets-eye\/","title":{"rendered":"Technology reveals much more to Stonehenge than meets the eye"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"TweetButton_button\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 10px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/share\" class=\"twitter-share-button\"  data-url=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/technology-reveals-much-stonehenge-meets-eye\/\" data-text=\"Technology reveals much more to Stonehenge than meets the eye\" data-lang=\"en\">Tweet<\/a><br \/>\n<script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,\"script\",\"twitter-wjs\");<\/script><\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stonehenge\" target=\"_blank\">Stonehenge ruin <\/a>in England continues to pique our interest. \u00a0Built before the advent of written language, the motives of it creators have ever been a subject of curiosity and scholarly study. \u00a0According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livescience.com\/47766-hidden-monuments-reveal-stonehenge-is-not-alone.html\" target=\"_blank\">this article at LiveScience.com<\/a>, modern technology such as ground penetrating radar and computer modeling are being used to study the site and the surrounding area; the results are showing a vastly larger and more complex\u00a0design to what is now believed to be a regional ritual site. \u00a0Notice that I said <em>believed to be<\/em>. \u00a0Speculation and educated guesswork is the order of the day since as I stated earlier, no written records exist. \u00a0So as researchers learn more about the people who built the monuments, they may have a better idea as to why they were built.<\/p>\n<p>The earliest activity at the site, evidence of timber structures, dates from approximately 8000 years B.C., with the large \u00a0familiar stone structure having been built around 2600 years B.C. \u00a0The last known construction appears to have happened around 1600 years B.C. \u00a0which means that the organized activities surrounding the site have spanned a period of some 6,400 years!
