{"id":1705,"date":"2014-10-07T10:44:26","date_gmt":"2014-10-07T18:44:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/?p=1705"},"modified":"2024-11-13T20:32:30","modified_gmt":"2024-11-14T04:32:30","slug":"robots-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/robots-coming\/","title":{"rendered":"The Robots are Coming&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"TweetButton_button\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 10px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/share\" class=\"twitter-share-button\"  data-url=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/robots-coming\/\" data-text=\"The Robots are Coming&#038;%238230;\" data-lang=\"en\">Tweet<\/a><br \/>\n<script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,\"script\",\"twitter-wjs\");<\/script><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/article\/2691607\/one-in-three-jobs-will-be-taken-by-software-or-robots-by-2025.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Robots are coming! \u00a0The Robots are coming!\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/p4bZJI-aM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">First they came for our jobs<\/a>, and I said nothing because I was unemployed. \u00a0Is this how the <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/p4bZJI-8t\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">robot revolution<\/a> begins?<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps my anxiety is uncalled for. \u00a0In fact as is the case with most of my <a href=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/?p=1431\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anxiety<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/?p=1585\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paranoia<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/?p=1651\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general hysteria<\/a> and impalpable ranting, I&#8217;m sure it is. \u00a0If history is our guide, then we can predict a shift in employment, but not an end to employment. \u00a0At the end of the nineteenth century, most American jobs were in agriculture. \u00a0When those jobs were taken over by machines, employment shifted to manufacturing. \u00a0Then those jobs were automated. \u00a0The employment shifted again to Tech and Services, the jobs that the &#8216;bots are eyeing now through their little red glowing IR sensor eyeballs&#8230;err&#8230;CMOS chips. \u00a0Is that the end of the line? \u00a0No. \u00a0Employment will shift to areas reliant on tasks that robots cannot perform &#8211; yet. \u00a0What those areas are I can&#8217;t say off the top of my head, but I&#8217;m sure they exist &#8211; or will exist. \u00a0And when the robots take over those jobs, humans will be employed in other industries possibly yet unheard of. \u00a0One hundred years ago the occupation of, say, software engineer had&#8217;t been imagined. \u00a0Today it is commonplace and often lucrative. \u00a0So I think it&#8217;s safe to say that there will be occupations that exist one hundred years from now that we cannot imagine today.<\/p>\n<p>Technology is advancing at an exponential rate. \u00a0Consider that personal computers were only introduced about 30 years ago and were very expensive. \u00a0Now everyone carries a better more powerful computer around <em>in their pocket<\/em>. \u00a0One that probably didn&#8217;t cost much &#8211; it might have even been free. \u00a0When my father was my age, neither the PC nor the Smartphone had been invented. \u00a0What types of technology might there be when my sons reach my age? \u00a0I don&#8217;t know. \u00a0<em>I literally do not know<\/em>. \u00a0I only know that the trend seems to be toward artificial intelligence and robotics. \u00a0It is hard to imagine where that&#8217;s going to lead us.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/robots-coming\/robot-unicorn-attack\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1707\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1707\" src=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/robot-unicorn-attack-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"robot unicorn attack\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/robot-unicorn-attack-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/robot-unicorn-attack-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/robot-unicorn-attack.jpg 634w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So perhaps the real question is, what (or who) is going to take over the jobs that robots are doing? \u00a0The next couple hundred years should be interesting; \u00a0let&#8217;s hope it doesn&#8217;t get weird. \u00a0OK, check that. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/?p=1437\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">We know it&#8217;s gonna get weird<\/a>. \u00a0Let&#8217;s just hope it doesn&#8217;t get <em>too<\/em> weird.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tweet The Robots are coming! \u00a0The Robots are coming!\u00a0 First they came for our jobs, and I said nothing because I was unemployed. \u00a0Is this how the robot revolution begins?
