epilogue\" data-lang=\"en\">Tweet<\/a><br \/>\n<script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,\"script\",\"twitter-wjs\");<\/script><\/div>\n<p>Back about the middle of December I began a series of posts entitled &#8220;A Puppy&#8217;s Tale&#8221;. \u00a0I intended it to be a trilogy, and completed parts I (<a href=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/?p=1900\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Fortunate Encounter<\/a>) and II (<a href=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/?p=1852\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Winding Road<\/a>). \u00a0This post is part III (Epilogue), though it will be a bit of a non-sequitur in that I will depart from the third person storytelling format and move into the first person narrative.<\/p>\n<p>I was motivated to write the story as a method of dealing with the grief I experienced after the death of my 16 year old dog, Desa.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/puppys-tale-epilogue\/desa-flowers\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2025\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2025 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Desa-Flowers-e1731007964698-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Desa Flowers\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Desa-Flowers-e1731007964698-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Desa-Flowers-e1731007964698-113x150.jpg 113w, https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Desa-Flowers-e1731007964698-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Desa-Flowers-e1731007964698-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Desa-Flowers-e1731007964698-1536x2048.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have lost pets before, but the level of grief I experienced this time was deeper than I had felt before and I thought that perhaps I needed a coping mechanism. \u00a0I decided to write a story of her life &#8211; which coincidentally would be a story of my life during the years we shared. \u00a0This turned out to be an immensely personal task and after completing the first two parts I did not and still do not believe that my writing skills are up to finishing the trilogy in a way that will do justice to the truth. \u00a0Suffice it to say that when this dog and I crossed paths, both our worlds became better, though whether hers really did is merely an assumption on my part. \u00a0I do know that when our paths parted I was left with an emptiness that seemed disproportionately profound. \u00a0I still feel it today.<\/p>\n<p>The story of how Desa joined our family <a href=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/?p=1900\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as told in Part I <\/a>is unimbellished truth as told to me by my first (late) wife who was not an exagerator or prevaricator. \u00a0Desa was not the first dog I have owned, but for reasons that are not obvious to me I was closer to her than any other dog I have known or owned. \u00a0Perhaps it is because I believe that I grew a great deal as a person during the years I owned her. \u00a0I don&#8217;t know &#8211;
