{"id":283,"date":"2014-03-26T15:46:55","date_gmt":"2014-03-26T23:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/?p=283"},"modified":"2016-07-11T12:44:51","modified_gmt":"2016-07-11T20:44:51","slug":"in-vino-veritas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/in-vino-veritas\/","title":{"rendered":"In Vino Veritas"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"TweetButton_button\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 10px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/share\" class=\"twitter-share-button\"  data-url=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/in-vino-veritas\/\" data-text=\"In Vino Veritas\" data-lang=\"en\">Tweet<\/a><br \/>\n<script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,\"script\",\"twitter-wjs\");<\/script><\/div>\n<p>This is another one of those Latin sayings that seems to have stuck around for a few thousand years. \u00a0It means &#8220;there is truth in wine&#8221; or &#8220;in wine there is truth&#8221; and dates to the first century A.D. \u00a0Guess there must be some truth in it &#8211; In Vino Veritas Veritas. \u00a0We know what it says, but what does it <strong><em>mean<\/em><\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>People are seldom completely open with one another. \u00a0That is not to say that all people are dishonest, it&#8217;s just that nearly everyone will put a facade between themselves and others except for those we are most intimate with. \u00a0It is just a question of degrees. \u00a0To be completely open is to be vulnerable and to be so with another person requires a great deal of trust that the other person will accept what they are presented with. \u00a0To present oneself openly and suffer rejection could be devastating and so we are afraid to risk it. \u00a0And as we are afraid to risk it, we hide behind a mask &#8211; sometimes just a little eyecovering, or for others it is a full suit of armor. \u00a0We thus protect ourselves as we move about our daily lives, only shedding our disguises in moments of complete and guaranteed safety.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>As the wine is sipped, the mask is slipped<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Most likely from the time that fermentation and then distillation were first discovered, it was learned that the consumption of alcohol lowered inhibitions. \u00a0And what is inhibition?
