{"id":893,"date":"2014-06-06T11:46:55","date_gmt":"2014-06-06T19:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/?p=893"},"modified":"2014-06-06T11:48:00","modified_gmt":"2014-06-06T19:48:00","slug":"youll-see-meant-beginning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/youll-see-meant-beginning\/","title":{"rendered":"You&#8217;ll see&#8230;You were meant to be here&#8230;from the beginning"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"TweetButton_button\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 10px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/share\" class=\"twitter-share-button\"  data-url=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/youll-see-meant-beginning\/\" data-text=\"You&#038;%238217;ll see&#038;%238230;You were meant to be here&#038;%238230;from the beginning\" data-lang=\"en\">Tweet<\/a><br \/>\n<script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,\"script\",\"twitter-wjs\");<\/script><\/div>\n<p>Since I was the youngest of four siblings I was influenced by the music my brother and sisters listened to. \u00a0Eventually I got old enough to discern my own musical tastes &#8211; I remember asking my father to buy me a record &#8211; a single or a 45 of \u00a0The Animals \u00a0&#8220;Please Don&#8217;t Let Me Be Misunderstood&#8221; when I was about 9 years old, my first acquisition of music that was <em>my own<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HHjKzr6tLz0\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I was fortunate in that my older brother with whom I shared a room was also interested in music and so had a record player, later a stereo, and some music. \u00a0I had his stereo to play my music on and his collection to listen to. \u00a0Since I usually destroyed most of his stuff like little brothers often do, I&#8217;m sure I scratched most of his records and roached a few of the stereo&#8217;s needles. \u00a0Of course there was no malice aforethought &#8211; but still &#8211; sorry Ted! \u00a0However, most of the time it was the radio that supplied the music. \u00a0When I say radio, I mean AM Top 40 radio as that was the format of that era. \u00a0And that was enough for some years, but as the sixties waned, the music scene was evolving too. \u00a0Stereo setups became a little more sophisticated, usually incorporating a tuner\/amplifier with an FM band. \u00a0FM stations began to spring up with what was known as album-oriented formats or free form programming. \u00a0Bottom line is there were no playlists, the DJs played pretty much whatever they wanted. \u00a0The first one I was exposed to was <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/KSAN_(FM)\" target=\"_blank\">KSAN<\/a>, a San Fransisco station &#8211; as I recall it was because the father of a high school friend of mine had a Cadillac with an FM radio. \u00a0A little later, local station <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/KZAP_(defunct)\" target=\"_blank\">KZAP<\/a> came along. \u00a0These stations provided access to progressive or alternate rock like Genesis, YES, Emerson, Lake &amp;Palmer, etc. that was never heard on AM because of the Top 40 format. \u00a0AM radio was still very much alive, however, since most cars only had AM radios and we kids were still a few years off from our own cars and having money for after market sound sysytems. \u00a0Eventually the free form FM format died out, apparently not commercial enough to succeed. \u00a0No matter &#8211; the internet was born. \u00a0Thank you Al Gore! \u00a0I couldn&#8217;t do this without YouTube!<\/p>\n<p><del>So you have a little glimpse into what happened to turn me into the maladjusted developmentally arrested freak I am today<\/del>. \u00a0Did I say that out loud?
