{"id":976,"date":"2014-06-17T13:09:57","date_gmt":"2014-06-17T21:09:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/?p=976"},"modified":"2014-06-17T13:10:59","modified_gmt":"2014-06-17T21:10:59","slug":"search-extraterrestrial-bretheren-insanely-risky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/search-extraterrestrial-bretheren-insanely-risky\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Search For Extraterrestrial Bretheren Could Be &#8220;Insanely Risky&#8221;&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"TweetButton_button\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 10px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/share\" class=\"twitter-share-button\"  data-url=\"https:\/\/ego-vero.net\/main\/search-extraterrestrial-bretheren-insanely-risky\/\" data-text=\"Our Search For Extraterrestrial Bretheren Could Be &#038;%238220;Insanely Risky&#038;%238221;&#038;%238230;\" data-lang=\"en\">Tweet<\/a><br \/>\n<script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,\"script\",\"twitter-wjs\");<\/script><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sciencetech\/article-2658708\/Bid-talk-aliens-doom-What-not-lovable-like-ET-What-mean-harm-Be-afraid-bit-afraid.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #2b2b2b;\">Our Search for Extraterrestrial Bretheren could be &#8220;insanely risky&#8221; says at least one senior scientist associated with NASA and SETI. \u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #2b2b2b;\">I have written before <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/p4bZJI-54\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/p4bZJI-5b\" target=\"_blank\">here <\/a>about the search for earth like planets orbiting stars in our galaxy and others, and many of you already know about <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seti\" target=\"_blank\">SETI<\/a>, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence programs to &#8220;listen&#8221; for signs of extraterrestrial civilizations. \u00a0Apparently, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sciencetech\/article-2658708\/Bid-talk-aliens-doom-What-not-lovable-like-ET-What-mean-harm-Be-afraid-bit-afraid.html\" target=\"_blank\">this article <\/a>at the UK Daily Mail, the boffins have begun a new program called Active SETI or METI where instead of just listening for signs of neighboring civilizations, signals are actively sent out at high power toward likely targets in an attempt to establish communication with any civilizations that may be within &#8220;earshot&#8221;. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #2b2b2b;\">(&#8220;boffins&#8221; are &#8220;experts&#8221;. \u00a0I have always wanted to use that word and couldn&#8217;t pass up the chance)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #2b2b2b;\">Not all scientists think this is such a great idea. \u00a0According to the article:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"color: #000000;\"><em style=\"font-style: italic;\"><strong style=\"font-weight: bold;\">&#8220;Not all scientists are sanguine about this, however.
